Municipal technology: In action for the city and municipality

Mulching or watering beds, cleaning roads or clearing for winter maintenance - local authorities have a variety of tasks in the municipal sector that they have to delegate. In particular, the care and maintenance of green spaces and areas, but also the cleaning of roads and the maintenance of sports facilities is carried out by the municipal services. In order to carry out these tasks in the best possible way, they need not only capable employees but also the right machines.
Machines for municipal applications
Clean streets, well-maintained parks and ice-free paths - we owe it all to municipal vehicles. The vehicles, usually painted a striking orange colour, facilitate the care and maintenance of public areas and can be found in every community. However, for a machine to be suitable as municipal technology, it must fulfil a number of criteria: Firstly, the tractors used should be as versatile as possible so that they can be used for a wide variety of tasks all year round. Secondly, manoeuvrability and stability are crucial. In urban environments, the machines often have to manoeuvre in confined spaces and need a secure footing when working on cobblestones or kerbs.
What areas of application are there in municipal technology?
Municipal technology covers a wide range of different tasks involved in the care and maintenance of municipal areas. These can vary greatly depending on the city and location. The most common tasks at municipal level include street cleaning and waste disposal, maintenance of green spaces, winter services and road maintenance.
Due to their wide range of tasks, local authorities like to use implement carriers that can be used universally for many different purposes. This avoids long machine downtimes and optimises machine utilisation. In some areas, however, the use of specialised machines is essential. For waste disposal in particular, but also for very specialised applications such as sewer cleaning, it often makes sense for local authorities to rely on highly specialised vehicles that are designed precisely for the work required of them.
Grassland maintenance
In summer, grassland maintenance is one of the main tasks performed by municipal vehicles. Whether roadsides or waysides, ditches, parks and sports fields or inner-city greenery - all of these areas must be maintained and cared for by the building yard. Which tasks are required and which machines are used depends heavily on the area utilisation. Ditches and grass verges along paths and roads are primarily only mowed or mulched to avoid causing traffic obstructions. In contrast, the situation is quite different for inner-city green spaces such as parks or sports grounds: In order to maintain the aesthetics of bushes and trees and the usability of lawns, further maintenance measures such as regular watering, fertilising and pruning of plants are necessary.
Street cleaning & waste disposal
Municipal technology is on the road all year round to ensure that municipalities shine with cleanliness and an attractive overall appearance. In addition to waste disposal, including the emptying of public waste bins, the maintenance and care of public roads and paths is a particular focus. Sweepers, as well as weed brushes and machines for wet cleaning, are used here to ensure clean traffic areas.
Winter road clearance
Even if it is only seasonal, winter road maintenance is an important task for local authorities. Because only by removing ice and snow from the roads can it be ensured that road traffic is safe. In addition to clearing roads with snow ploughs, snow blowers and snow blowers, gritting roads with salt or grit is also a task for local authorities.
