Many farmers are familiar with the problem, especially with rear-mounted implements and in confusing or narrow terrain: you almost have to twist your neck to get an optimal view. But what if it could be easier and safer? Reversible seat systems are one way to make working with a tractor even clearer and more effective. We have summarized how this works in this article.
A reversible seat system is a driver's seat that can be rotated 180° within a few seconds. The driver's seat and dashboard, including gearshift, are mounted on a rotating tower. This makes it easy to change the direction of the seat in just a few simple steps.
Reversible seating systems have a number of advantages over conventional, fixed seats in everyday use. In particular, the improved seating positions and visibility should be mentioned here. Especially when using rear-mounted implements or in confusing situations, it is necessary for the driver to look to the rear for long periods of time. With rigid seats, this results in the driver adopting an unergonomic working position, which can lead to back and neck problems in the long term. In addition, the viewing angle is restricted in this twisted seating position, which reduces the driver's overview and range of vision. Using the reversible seat system not only ensures a comfortable seating position, but also improves visibility and control of rear-mounted implements.
Working speed is also positively influenced by the reversible seat. On the one hand, the increased visibility makes maneuvering easier and faster, especially in tight and confusing situations. Secondly, a study shows that when mowing with a rear mower, there was a time saving of up to 12% when the driver was working in reverse with a reversible seat. The use of a reversible seat resulted in significant time savings, particularly when making turns.
Lengthy conversion work? Not with the reversible seat system! In fact, the driver's seat and dashboard can be adjusted in just a few seconds. The reversible seat system can therefore be quickly and easily integrated into everyday tasks.
In principle, drivers can benefit from a reversible seat in all areas in which the line of vision is permanently or at least regularly directed backwards. In particular, this includes tasks that involve a lot of reversing or where you have to keep an eye on a rear-mounted implement. In practice, reversible seat systems are used in particular for mowing and mulching, forestry work or when working in confined spaces (e.g. in row crops).
Reversible seat systems are not yet standard on many tractors. However, some companies now offer tractors that can be equipped with a reversible seat system. The best-known suppliers include:
